Getting There
El Dorado International Airport, roughly five kilometres away, is the main hub of Colombia, with flights to all major Latin American, North American and European cities. The hotel shuttle takes around ten minutes outside peak hours.
TransMilenio, Bogotá's bus rapid transit system, runs along Avenida El Dorado, with a station close to Modelia. It connects with the city centre and La Candelaria and is much cheaper than taxis, though it gets very crowded at rush hour.
Uber, Cabify and DiDi operate widely in Bogotá and are the safest option for taxis, with fixed prices and tracked routes. Hailing taxis on the street, especially at night, is not recommended.
Traffic in Bogotá is heavy, particularly between six and nine in the morning and five and eight in the evening. Plan airport transfers and appointments with margin, especially on Friday evenings.
For excursions, Zipaquirá and its famous Salt Cathedral lie about fifty kilometres north, reachable by car or tour. Villa de Leyva, a colonial town, is around three hours by road.
