Walking Guide
The neighbourhood around the hotel offers practical comfort: supermarkets, bakeries selling almojábanas and pandebono, fruit juice stands and small restaurants. A Modo Nostro, an Italian restaurant about two hundred and fifty metres away, is a reliable choice for dinner.
About two kilometres away, the Maloka interactive science centre entertains children and adults with experiments and a dome cinema, a good option on rainy afternoons, which in Bogotá are frequent.
The José Celestino Mutis Botanical Garden, around twenty five minutes on foot or a short taxi ride, presents Colombian ecosystems from the Andean páramo to tropical forest in greenhouses and outdoor gardens. It is one of the calmest places in the city.
Simón Bolívar Park, the large green lung of Bogotá, hosts concerts and festivals such as Rock al Parque. Nearby, the Salitre Mágico amusement park is popular with families on weekends.
La Candelaria, the colonial heart of the city, lies further east. The Gold Museum with its pre Columbian treasures, the Botero Museum and the cable car to Monserrate are the classic sights. Plan a full day and leave early to beat traffic.
